Larger human brain led to larger penis

The human penis is comparatively larger than that of the other great apes because of our comparatively larger brains, gynecologist Edwin A. Bowman explains in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior.

Through millions of years evolution the infant babies' skulls became larger in order to accommodate bigger brains, explained Dr. Bowman.

This in turn led to a female pelvis become larger to allow women to give birth to children with larger brains, and this led to the female vagina also becoming less tight.

"As the diameter of the bony pelvis increased over time to permit passage of an infant with a larger cranium, the size of the vaginal canal necessarily also became larger, potentially resulting in a vaginal–penile discrepancy in size," Dr. Bowman pointed out. "Sexually satisfying coitus requires a satisfactory 'fit' for both partners."

This meant that as humans evolved, men with larger penises fared better through natural selection as they had a better change of having satisfying sexual intercourse and ejaculating, causing more women to become pregnant.

"As a gynecologist, I have had many occasions to discuss penile size with women contemplating vaginal plastic surgery," Dr. Bowman concludes. "In general and within reason, women prefer larger penises. The preference is ingrained in our culture and probably has been so since prehistoric times."
