Fans mark 30 years of Star Wars

Long time ago in a movie studio not so far away...

Star Wars fans from around the world converged on Los Angeles to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the original film.

George Lucas, the creator of the epic fantasy saga, is throwing the largest party ever for fans of the saga, taking over the entire Los Angeles Convention Center.

For five days filled with live entertainment, celebrities from all six movies, special film and video presentations, an exhibit of movie props and costumes, exclusive merchandise sold at a 24-hour-a-day store, pop culture tributes, immersive events, costume contests, and scores of additional activities.

Star Wars, the first film of the six part epic was released on May 25, 1977, by 20th Century Fox. Later, it was retrotitled Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

The film starred Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher with memorable supporting roles by Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels and James Earl Jones.

The original film was followed by two sequels and three prequels.
