Cover version of the Edwin Starr classic War (What is it good for?) by the Rock group Ugly Rumours with its lead singer Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister, is expected to top the UK charts for the first week of 2007 [ Respect].
Blair, who started the band while at Oxford University in the 1970s [Biogs.com] has promised to donate 25% of the proceedings to the Stop The War coalition which organised the two million person march in London just before US and British forces invaded Iraq in 2003 [Stop The War].
The single is released online only selling for 79p per download, out of which 20p will go towards charity.
From the 1st of January 2007 download only releases are eligible for the UK Top 40, The first week of January is traditionally a quiet week in the charts, a number one can be achieved with approximately 30,000 sales.
Ugly Rumours has released a pre-release trailer of the single on the popular video sharing site YouTube.com [ YouTube.com].
